Week Five Assignment

My series of maps studies the area that surrounds Sitka, Alaska, as well as Baranof Island. Although this area isn't under any huge environmental stresses, it is imperative to stay on top of the small issues to preserve the beautiful natural environment. Although this view is a bit large, it can be good for mapping areas of logging activity as well as fishing data. There is not much logging occurring in the area anymore, but Sitka being located in a rainforest is always subject to this kind of danger. The land cover map is especially helpful in realizing this risk. The 3d DEM is also helpful to realize where logging may occur (where the industry can be most successful). Fishing however is a huge industry and these maps can be useful to realizing the areas where overfishing may be taking place.
